The Last Day of School

The day you have all been waiting for - the last day of school for the year. It's funny how that even though it is an eagerly awaited day, on that last day, there are tears and hugs and some students show back up after the day has ended - wandering the empty halls and looking into their old classrooms to see if any teachers are still packing up before heading home. The last day is bitter sweet - summer's lure is too strong to ignore - swimming, beaches, sleeping in, time with friends and family, hiking, camping, travel - so much to do, to look forward to, but at the same time, the beginning of summer is the end of the school year. Some of the good byes are temporary, but others, for those that are moving away, it is more permanent. Be thankful for the friends you have and the times that you spent together. Tomorrow is a new day - remember the things you've done the past that made you happy and treasure those memories. Have a wonderful summer! Write down your experiences - joyous or painful - and treasure them - because it is part of what makes you who you are. I will see you in the fall - thank you for a great year!

A man who won't forget Ray Bradbury | Books | guardian.co.uk

One of my favorite authors was Ray Bradbury - he wrote Fahrenheit 451- the original dystopian novel which brought you to a world where books were banned -warning people to think for themselves and the Martian Chronicles short stories that could transport you to far away places - both childhood favorites.  He died this week but will be remembered by many - including author Neil Gaiman, whose remembrance of Bradbury can be read here : A man who won't forget Ray Bradbury | Books | guardian.co.uk: 'via Blog this'

Another remembrance of Bradbury can be read here- http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2012/jun/06/ray-bradbury-fever-inspiration

kovno lithuania map - Google Maps

After Mr. Sol Lurie visited our school yesterday, I began to wonder about where Kovno, or Kaunas, Lithuana was located.  I looked up a map of Lithuana and surrounding countries, just to get an idea of where Mr. Lurie's ordeal began.  Here's a link to the map I found. While Lithuania is considered to be mid-sized as compared to other European countries, it is similar in size to West Virginia.  kovno lithuania map - Google Maps: "kovno lithuania map" 'via Blog this'
